After User Complaints of Compromised Accounts, KrisFlyer About to Introduce Two-Way Authentication
Non-Chinese Works June 27, 2023After User Complaints of Compromised Accounts, KrisFlyer About to Introduce Two-Way Authentication
KrisFlyer –the frequent flyer programme by Singapore Airlines, will be tightening its overall account security with the launching of two-factor or two-way authentication system. This will be into effect from 29th June.
The national carrier organization had sent a proper email to the members of KrisFlyer on 18th May. It asked the members to ensure that the email addresses and mobile numbers as enlisted on the profiles of the KrisFlyer database were completely up-to-date and were active in use for participation in the given programme.
Once 2FA (Two-Factor) authentication system has been implemented, the members will be required to enter a specific OTP (One-time password) for certain transactions with KrisFlyer towards activities like accessing the mobile phones, making changes to the redemption groups nominees, and so more. By default, the given OTP will be transmitted over to the registered mobile number of the user. The registered email address of the user will serve as an alternative in case the mobile number might not be available.
The given move by Singapore Airlines (SIA) has come after about a month once the airline company had acknowledged that some of the specific member accounts of KrisFlyer might have been compromised. While there have been several alerts about the redemptions being sent to some email addresses linked to the KrisFlyer Account, a member told that the given email account was inactive and she was not able to check the same.
Multi-factor authentication system is the one wherein the users are required to authenticate the respective credentials more than a single time for accessing their accounts. This is one way through which the airlines is aimed at improving the overall security of the frequent customers or fliers across the programmes.
